Our School
Here at Combs Traditional Academy, we focus on a curriculum-centered approach to learning. We provide a rigorous accelerated learning environment and have high expectations for academic achievement and student behavior. We limit classroom interruptions in order to ensure the most time-on-task for our students, which allows them to focus on learning core materials.
We’re one of five elementary schools in the J.O. Combs Unified School District, located in the warm and beautiful San Tan Valley, Arizona. You’ll find our school conveniently located at the southeast corner of Combs & Gantzel Roads. We proudly serve students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
What makes us unique is our “Back-to-Basics” philosophy. Here at Combs Traditional Academy we develop a solid foundation of fundamental and higher-level thinking skills through a structured curriculum that is consistent and sequential throughout grade levels. We deliver curriculum using direct teaching techniques, whole class instruction, and other approved teaching methods. We also plan our teaching and learning around textbooks and written assignments and do not interrupt classes for non-curricular programs or activities.
The Pledge of Allegiance, citizenship, and patriotism are an integral part of who we are. The Pledge of Allegiance is recited each morning school-wide, and students gather around the flagpole for flag ceremonies to recognize national holidays such as Veteran's Day, President's Day, and Remembrance Day. Our school colors reflect our patriotism, and students are encouraged to participate in community service and civics-related projects.
