The J.O. Combs Unified School District is committed to empowering its learners in a modern learning experience. Our Instructional Model values a Nurturing Culture, Innovation, Purposeful Learning, and Assessment as the tools through which our students will have the critical skills, knowledge, and understanding that will allow them to successfully participate in a changing global world. #Forward is our district movement towards personalized learning, personalized assessment, and flexible learning spaces for all students. We began this process by developing our Theory of Action, then created our Instructional Model, and identified our initial cohort of teachers to begin the change process towards modern learning experiences for our students. As a result of #Forward, we have made significant changes to our Professional Learning model, including our coaching and delivery processes. We are excited to take our next steps #Forward to a district-wide learner centered culture!

Our Initial Cohort
In the fall of the 2018-2019 school year, teachers from around the district were invited to apply to be a member of the initial #Forward cohort. Check out our video of the prize patrol as we recognized those that were accepted into the initial cohort!

National Council on Digital Convergence National Showcase District
On February 5, 2019, the National Council on Digital Convergence named the J.O. Combs Unified School District as a District of Distinction and the 2020 National Showcase District for its work on developing a modern learning environment. Teachers and administrators from around the country visited our district on February 3, 2020 as part of the National Conference on Digital Convergence. Visitors had the opportunity to see the work we have conducted on transforming our culture to one that centers on the learner and the different aspect of our instructional model.
